The Friday Sundowner on Fifth Avenue

Friday, a little after five. The round is done, the scorecard is somebody else's problem, and the sun is starting to drop behind the buildings on Fifth Avenue South. That light only lasts about an hour. This is the hour.
The scene on Fifth
If you live here, you know it. If you've been away all summer, this is what you've been missing.
The sidewalk tables fill up first. The Italian places are already busy: Molto, Bar Tulia. Upstairs at Del Mar, people are claiming the patio over the avenue. Further down, the steak crowd is settling in at Chops City Grill and Ocean Prime, with an early table booked because the night is just starting.
Couples walking the dog. Friends from the club who drove in separately and ended up at the same bar. Someone you haven't seen since April waving from across the street. It's the best people-watching in Naples, and on a Friday in season, everyone you know is out.
That's the point of the sundowner. You're not dressed for golf anymore, and you're not dressed for a gala. You're dressed for the street.
The look
This is Look 1 from our new Lookbook, and it's exactly what I'd put a man in for this hour.
The polo. The Paul & Shark cashmere-wool open collar polo in light blue melange. Ninety percent virgin wool, ten percent cashmere. It's soft, it's light, and the open collar with no buttons sits better than any golf shirt. It's traditional Italian workmanship, and the elegance is understated. You know it's there. Nobody else needs to be told.
The trousers. The Alberto Move Pant in off white. Someone always asks about white after Labor Day. In Naples, off-white works all year. These are washable, they stretch, and they hold their shape from the first tee to the last glass.
The belt. The Alberto leather belt in light grey. Pale on pale, so the eye goes to the polo.
The shoes. The Martin Dingman Cameron in whiskey. Sneakers are the new loafers. But understand what I mean: an updated sneaker, hand-finished sheepskin on a proper rubber sole. Not what you wore to the gym. Gym clothes still belong in the gym.
The sunglasses. Vuarnet Horizon 02, Japanese titanium. On the table now, but they did their job on the walk over.
Why it works
Every piece here can go somewhere else. The polo goes under a sport coat on Saturday night. The trousers go on the plane. The sneakers go with jeans. Together they say you made an effort without looking like you tried.
You can see every piece in one place on The Naples Fall Edit. Tap the photo and it takes you there. More looks are coming to the Lookbook all season.
